The Zivot Limb Preservation Centre, located at the Peter Lougheed Centre in Calgary Alberta provides expert care for Diabetics with foot ulcers and/ or infection. The centre is staffed by Podiatric Surgeons who maintain close contact with physicians specializing in vascular surgery, infectious disease, plastic/reconstructive surgery, orthopaedic surgery, nephrology and endocrinology, along with wound care nurses and orthotic technicians – see below for the full team list or visit their website www.zivotlpc.ca.

Amputation Prevention

Each year over 700 Albertans undergo a diabetes related lower-limb amputation. Sadly, 90% of these amputations are preventable. The potential implications resulting from an amputation are even more concerning – studies show that the five year survival rate following an amputation is lower than many forms of cancer. It is safe to say amputations are not benign.

The Diabetic Foot & Limb Preservation Centre is committed to promoting excellence in the clinical care of diabetes related foot complications, research, and education with the overall goal being limb preservation.

Expert Care

Thanks to the expertise of the team and state-of-the-art technology available the clinic is able to provide patients with rapid and integrated evaluation and treatment. Through assessment the patient’s blood flow, underlying architecture of the foot and type and extent of infection are determined followed by the implementation of the most appropriate treatment. If foot ulcers and infection are detected early and the most appropriate treatment is implemented swiftly an amputation can often be avoided.
